Multi-Boxing GW?
Hi, as I'm sure some of you know there are programs out there that let you run two copies of Guild Wars at the same time(GWx2). My question is, if I use a program such as Octopus or Keyclone. which allow you to spread the same key presses along multiple windows. Is this considered against the EULA? Since I am physically present (and niether of these programs can play the game for me, it just makes it easier to do 2 char +6 hero) is it considered illegal?
There is much debate on these programs for other games (read:WoW) and they have been considered acceptable. Does A-net also consider these programs acceptable? or do they vehemently disagree? I want to know if I can save myself some hassle of multiple alt+tabbing doing instances (and running 2 ele's at the same time), but I also recognize the potential for abuse (multiple farming monks?) As a disclaimer, these programs don't give any additional benefits other than pressing the same key for multiple windows (something that can be achieved using 1 wireless keyboard + 2 PC's) and I also realize many users will instanly flame me for suggesting that ANY 3rd party program might not be illegal. Thanks in advance. |

Yes, it's against the EULA.
No, Anet doesn't care... Why does every PvE'er and his mom (Don't take it personal) have to find justification for the stuff he's planning on doing anyways, regardless of what the anwser is... No, ANY program that interferes with GW in ANY way is illegal. If you have a program that logs U out by pressing a key, yes it's illegal. If you have a program that Automaticly types: "WTB, XXX", yes that is illegal. But it doesn't matter, it just... doesn't... matter... When Anet refers to this stuff in their EULA, they are referring to people who: -Plan on making profit out of GW through botting -Plan on ruining it for other players (E.G: farm botting HFFF to buy a town) -Who bot their intire GW carreer. They are NOT here to hunt every person down that is using a "third-party-program" to BANN HIM, BABAAAAAAAAAN HIM. No. Regardless what people say here: You shouldn't worry, unless your intentions are to hack GW, Anet won't ban you... (Don't even think about perm ban lol) |

And my G15 keyboard allows me to send sentences in one key press I used it for Guild recruiting in towns becuz my message was the same everyday and rather long took up to lines( as in full line enter enter another line). My keyboard also allows me to use multiple skills at once where its for me or heroes, I can do the drunkard title while I'm afk at work or sleep. Speed click threw stacks of sweets and party points in seconds and not have a sore finger. Thats one of the funner things is clicking threw 4 stack of sweets/party points in a press of a button. But everything I've said benefits me and me only for in-game purposed and no outside conversion like the RMT companies are involved in. Macros just make life easier in the case of Guildwars they don't have a system built into their game as most other games do. If it doesn't hurt the game or Anet then i say why not you don't make money, they don't lose money. and thats all they really care bout just like every company. Also don't fall for a companies we care about our customers, as long as they make money and still have a job when they wake it that is all that matters to them. |

If you are multi-playing in the manner you describe, the only possible reason I can think of you would do that is for faster accumulation of in-game wealth. Regardless of what anyone says to justify your actions, you are cheating.
Zidane is cheating to advance his title. Do I care? No. It has no effect on me or the in-game economy. Do people get away with it? Likely so. Just look at all the people running macros in Lutgardis for hfff. Anet knows about it, but so far has chosen not to deal with them. Does that make it ok? No. Could Anet choose to address the advanced keyboard macros? If they want to, they will, though it would be quite a headache for them. Will we feel bad for you if you get banned for botting? No. |

Textmod gives u an unfair advantage over people not using it.
G15 Keyboard gives u an unfair advantage over people not using it. (Face it, saving 5 minutes a day,is still saving 5 minutes a day others can't) Yes, Anet CAN ban you for using those programs. Will they? No, they won't. |

In regards to Texmod, it depends on what you use it for. If you're using it to change the look of Guild Wars then it's not really an advantage. However, if you're using it to help with your cartography, then it is an advantage, but it doesn't really hurt the game, but just provides a much better tool to figure out where you've been.
In regards to macros, I can understand doing a sentence at a touch of a button, but you really shouldn't spam the Local chat. ^_^; I just can't see anyone justifying using them for an unfair advantage with titles and the like. Still, it doesn't affect me, so I really don't care one way or the other. Use anything that does affect the player-base in a negative (even positive, but that's another issue) way, then there is a problem. ^_^; To answer the question, though, I find this a safe policy: If you have to ask, then chances are it's against the Terms of Use. On another note, the User Agreement isn't exactly an End-User License Agreement, I don't think... :-/ Is it? |

Texmod doesn't give an advantage over other players. It affects gameplay in no way in PvP (exept maybe a 50% health marker for certain conditional skills) , therfore it isn't an unfair advantage.
The OP Isn't asking about texmod though. He is changing nothing in the game and that is totally unrelated. More on topic: Would it be considered cheating if he had 2 accounts and 2 computers running at the same time? I don't see that in the EULA. I use GWx2 to transfer all my crap to my storage account - Am I cheating by doing this? There is a fine line between botting and using things such as GWx2. I think somewhere it was said, aslong as you are present (as opposed to sat watching TV while your monk grinds avicara or HFFF's for you) You can use things such as macros for Guild Recruiting, don't quote me on that but i seem to remember something simillar with a simple click macro for death levelling and another for the drunkard. Since we haven't been told which things are Illegal or Legal i guess we will never know :P |
